In Cougar the Backup utility has been completely redesigned, and it will NO longer support Tape drives, if you intend to use a tape drive you will need to purchase a third party utility. The backup utility now gives more functionality and allows backups to be scheduled multiple times within one day. the ability ot backup to disk, DVD, and to network drive are also options. Thanks, David |

Hi Dave, I have heard of this and posted my comments elsewhere. You can still use tape to store the backup file. As seen elsewhere on this forum removable media such as external HD's are still not as reliable as tape nor in my opinion convenient to take off site. Removing a tape from a drive is one thing, unplugging a HD is another. People forget that we are dealing with Small Business who by their status will not/cannot spend large amounts of money on IT. Also with Cougar, ISA no longer part of it, not surprised. I almost always used an external firewall anyway. So after Cougar will SQL be removed. Its interesting to see the development of this product over the years. As of now SBS 2003 is fairly stable. All the best, John. |
