We had a great turn out of ten people for this event.

Thank you to Ian Moran for his presentaion on Sharepoint.

Thank you to Microsoft for support the usergroup.

We are hoping to have the next meeting on the 31st October.

Hope to see you there.

Today was the first face to face of the study group and it was a great success. Brian Finnegan and Alex Hoare both attended to discuss the 7-282 exam: Design, Deploying, and Managing a Network Solution for a Small- and Medium-Sized Business.

We started at 10:30 and finally called it to a close at 13:30, so it was a long day but happy faces.

We were using Harry Brelsford's Small Busines Specialist Primer book, which is available as a discount for registered members of the usergroup.

The next meeting is scheduled for the 2nd Septemeber at 10:30 am at Bewley's Hotel Sandyford.

Look forward to seeing you there.

David

Thank you to all that could make it, it was a great event and all the feedback has been very positive, and the turnout spectacular.

Big thank you to Sean O’Farrell from Office Technology  for presenting on SBS and ISA and to Sonicwall for presenting on Managed Security. Very good information and tough questions asked. Information will be posted on the site following up on details from the meeting.

SBS Leinster will now be meeting every month, and the Munster and Ulster groups will meet ever second month. One other change is that it will be the first Tuesday in the month for Leinster and every second last Tuesday consecutively for Munster and Ulster. Keep checking the site for further information on meetings.

There was a request to get more access to Betas as they become available, we have tied in with Colm Torris and TechNet Ireland are providing the group with a TechNet Plus Subscription. This will be used for Hands On Labs, Demonstrations, and requested sessions.  Again, keep checking the...

Microsoft have a lot going on in the public arena at the moment. Small Business Server 2003 R2 has gone RTM and Windows Live Messenger is only days away from being the new standard.

Just released to Public Beta are MS Office 2007, Windows Sharepoint Service 2007, Vista, and a few that have been out a little longer IE 7 and Media Player 11.

SBS 2003 R2 has finally brought together all the great advances since SBS 2003 was first released, all the Service Packs that take so much time to get a new server up  to date are now all in one place as well as including tight integration with WSUS,  and with the new Extended CALs options, it makes Branch Offices more accessible for Small Businesses.

But, and there is always a but, is it worth the upgrade cost from SBS 2003 to SBS 2003 R2, in my opinion I cannot justify it for existing SBS 2003 server installs, but for new servers going out the product is now Mature and very capable with many new options  of extra Value Added Services that you...

Thank you to all that attended the first meeting in Stormont Hotel and took time from such a lovely day to meet up. I found it to be a great first meeting with very enthusiast members there, and everyone got a chance to get to know each other and see where they wanted the group to move forward.

From the event two upcoming events to be held in Ulster:

  • Windows Sharepoint Services 2007 Beta
  • SBS & Macs

Thanks again to everyone that turned up,

David
